"Music Moves Us" Exhibit comes to Life

A modest donation of $1,200 sparked a remarkable transformation at the Arcadia History Museum, culminating in the creation of a vibrant and engaging music exhibit. Funded by the local nonprofit Music Moves Me, the exhibit stands as a testament to the power of community support and a shared love of music.
From Seed Money to Showcase
The initial funding was raised during the annual Minnehaha Brewhaha, a beloved Labor Day weekend event that celebrates music while supporting scholarships and music education initiatives. When the $1,200 donation reached the museum, it provided the essential seed money needed to bring the project to life.

Research and uncover the rich history of music in the Arcadia area
Bringing the Exhibit to Life
Under the direction of Terri Klifman with assistance from Ryan McKenna and Mike Matteson, the exhibit took shape as a dynamic blend of storytelling, visuals, and sound. A highlight of the installation includes a video showcasing a local musical group from years past, preserving their legacy for future generations.
Authentic Artifacts and Instruments
To deepen the experience, the museum sourced and displayed authentic musical artifacts loaned and donated by local musicians. These include a vintage guitar, a rare bugle, vintage sheet music and a Johnson Band Arcadia bass drum, offering visitors a tangible connection to Arcadia’s musical heritage.
Community Impact
Since opening for the 2024 season, the exhibit has drawn a wide range of visitors—from students and families to music enthusiasts and historians. Guests consistently note how the exhibit brings history to life through a thoughtful combination of objects, storytelling, and audio elements.
Beyond the exhibit itself, the project reflects the dedication of community volunteers whose time and effort helped transform a small donation into a lasting cultural experience.
